Preparing Your Dog for Their First Group Walk
Booking your dog's first group walk is exciting, but it's natural to have questions. Will they get on with the other dogs? Will they be overwhelmed? Here's what to expect and how to prepare.
Before the Walk
Complete Your Dog's Profile
When you sign up, we'll ask you to fill in a detailed profile for your dog. This covers everything from their temperament and energy level to any anxieties or health conditions. This information is essential — it's how we match your dog with a compatible pack.
Key Arrangements
Most of our clients use a key safe or lockbox so we can collect and return your dog while you're at work. Make sure your key arrangements are set up and the code is shared securely through your account. We take key security very seriously.
Vaccinations and Microchip
All dogs in our care must be up to date with vaccinations and microchipped. This is a legal requirement in the UK and essential for the safety of the whole pack. Make sure your dog's records are current before their first walk.
The First Walk
A Gentle Introduction
For their first outing, we take extra care to ensure your dog is comfortable. We might start with a smaller group or pair them with particularly calm, friendly dogs. Every dog is different, and we adjust our approach accordingly.
On-Lead Start
Unless you've specifically consented to off-lead exercise and your dog has excellent recall, they'll start on the lead. This lets them get comfortable with the group dynamics before we consider any off-lead time in safe, enclosed areas.
After the Walk
You'll receive a walk report with photos, a route map, and notes from the walker. This is a great way to see how your dog settled in and whether they enjoyed the experience.
Most dogs take to pack walking naturally — after all, it's in their nature. But if your dog needs a bit more time to adjust, that's perfectly fine. We'll work with you to find the right approach.
Common Concerns
"My dog is shy around other dogs"
That's okay. We have gentle, patient dogs in every pack, and we'll match your dog accordingly. Many shy dogs blossom with regular group walks as they build confidence over time.
"My dog pulls on the lead"
Not a problem. We're experienced with all types of walkers and pullers. Let us know about your dog's lead behaviour and we'll manage it safely.
"My dog has never been walked by anyone else"
A common first! Dogs are incredibly adaptable. With the right introduction and a consistent routine, they'll soon look forward to seeing their walker arrive.
